How To: Wash Your Makeup Brushes

So.... many of us are unsure on washing our makeup brushes, some don't even know they have to wash them (yikes!) but don't fear, I bring to you the at home, easy step-by-step way to clean your darling makeup brushes! Washing your brushes can prolong the life of a good set of professional makeup brushes and save you money by NOT having to replace them every so often.

Things you will need:
  • A bowl or a wide cup
  • Shampoo/In some cases dish washer
  • Warm water
Step #1- Pour a good amount of shampoo into your bowl or cup. (The amount will vary depending on how many brushes) Some makeup brushes will require a more heavy duty cleaner such as dish washing soap because of cream makeup. That stuff can really stick to those brushes!

Step #2- Glide the brushes over the poured shampoo.

Step #3- After you will add warm water to the bowl or cup to make a "bubble bath" for your brushes. This will make a soapy water in which the brushes will soak. Make sure it is not too watery.

Step #4- Now take each brush one by one and rub them off in a circular motion against your hand. You will notice that the hairs will make suds and any residue of makeup will start to rub off.

Step #5- Rinse your brushes in running warm water. Do make sure that all of the soap is off of the hairs on the brush, because if not, you will have hard brush hairs. Shake the brushes off to make sure most of the water is out of the head of the brush. Leaving water behind can make the glue that holds the hairs waste away, leaving you with hairs falling off your brush constantly.

Step #6- After you have washed all of the brushes you may lay out a clean towel and just rub the hairs on the towel sort of like when you towel dry your hair. Then set them down to dry over night. You may want to do this in the afternoon or late afternoon in order to assure that they are dry for application the next morning.

And voila, that is how you wash your make up brushes! Happy washing! :]
